Wet Scrubber (Air Pollution Control Devices)
A Wet Scrubber is an advanced air pollution control system designed to remove particulate matter, toxic gases, fumes, vapors, and chemical contaminants from industrial exhaust streams. It operates by bringing contaminated air into direct contact with a scrubbing liquid (typically water or a chemical solution), which captures and removes pollutants.
Wet scrubbers are highly versatile and are widely used across industries because they can remove both solid particles and gaseous pollutants simultaneously. These systems are capable of achieving 90–99% removal efficiency, depending on the design and application.
Working Principle
Wet scrubbers operate on the principle of gas-liquid contact and mass transfer:
- Polluted gas enters the scrubber chamber
- Liquid is sprayed through nozzles forming fine droplets
- Pollutants collide with droplets and get absorbed or trapped
- Clean air exits through a mist eliminator
- Contaminated liquid is collected, treated, and recirculated
This process effectively removes contaminants by transferring them from the gas phase into the liquid phase.
